Slow and Steady

I was recently talking to someone online about how long it is taking her to see results from diet and exercise. I wanted to touch on this subject because, I too used to be the same way. Unfortunately impatience is common when we are wanting a change in ourselves and our lives. We want it right now!

Let’s start with diet. I used to be the same way when it came to eating to “transform” my body. It really depends on your goals. My goal was first weightloss. That took about 6 years of fad and yo-yo diets. For me it took a lot longer. I had to try different things. I had to find what worked for me. I did a lot of research and watched a lot of informative videos. I finally realized I wanted something that was sustainable. Not just a quick fix.

It has taken me about 2 years to get to the point I am now. But, I am the healthiest I have ever been, in the best shape I have ever been and have amazing energy. By eating real and clean foods I am so much better for it. It took a little bit longer but, like I said it’s sustainable.

As for the fitness. It all depends on what your goals are. Mine were to lose fat and gain lean muscle mass. I do recommend at least some sort of resistance and/or strength training. It has more benefits than just building muscle and toning. Check out my blog post on Strength Training and Older Age. It talks about the different benefits of strength training. But, any form of exercise is good for you!

With a good exercise routine and a good clean diet, you will see results. Just be patient and keep challenging yourself.

Now, if you are wanting to lose weight in a shorter period of time, tracking your macros is very helpful. And make sure you are burning more or at least the same amount of calories you are taking in.
